Body: MANDURO is available in three sizes to suit different needs: Small (30 cm diameter x 36 cm tall), Medium (35 cm diameter x 40 cm tall) and Large (40 cm diameter x 44 cm tall). Weights are approximately 1.10 kg (S), 1.40 kg (M) and 1.60 kg (L). Each basket features two practical handles for easy carrying and handling, making it ideal for laundry, towels, or as a plant basket for larger indoor plants. In living areas it also serves beautifully as a decorative storage place for firewood or bulky textiles.
Craft and materials: The baskets are 100% handmade and produced under fair trade conditions. They are crafted from rolled fibers of old banana tree trunks, resulting in a robust, dimensionally stable material with a natural, intense brown color that develops when the fibers are sun-dried for about a week. The fibers are formed into characteristic strands roughly 6 mm thick and combined with a woven cotton cord pattern for visual contrast and additional strength. Other materials include cotton and nylon thread. The product is delivered in plastic-free packaging.
Performance and care: MANDURO’s plant-fiber construction gives the baskets an authentic natural scent and tactile feel. The material is sturdy and suitable for regular household use; however, as a natural, handcrafted product, it should be kept away from prolonged direct moisture and heavy continuous load to preserve shape and color. Light cleaning with a dry brush or gentle wipe is recommended.
Variations and individual character: Each basket is an artfully crafted individual piece. Slight variations in size, color and shape are to be expected due to hand production and natural material differences, and they contribute to the basket’s unique character.
Production and ethics: These baskets are handmade in Java, Indonesia. We select local producers who provide fair pay and good working conditions and work exclusively with adult, experienced artisans. No harmful chemicals are used in the manufacturing process. Because every production step is done by hand, the process generates minimal greenhouse gas emissions. We verify these standards through regular on-site visits and continuous personal contact with our partner companies.
