These baskets are woven from natural plant fibers and retain the warm scent and tactile qualities of nature. To preserve the weave and finish, keep dry and avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight. Wipe clean with a dry or slightly damp cloth; do not soak.

Why water hyacinth?
Water hyacinth is a fast-growing tropical aquatic plant originally from South America and now common in parts of Southeast Asia. Because it reproduces rapidly and can overwhelm waterways, harvesting and using it for woven goods turns an ecological challenge into a sustainable resource. Leaves are removed and thick stems are sun-dried for three to seven days, producing a durable raw material ideal for handcrafted baskets.

Use & versatility
The Jawah’s flat, open form makes it particularly suited to presenting bread and rolls on the breakfast table, but it also works equally well as a fruit bowl or small serving tray. Practical handles make transport easy. Thanks to the strength of the dried water hyacinth fibers, this basket handles light serving tasks reliably.

Made by hand in Java, Indonesia. When selecting local producers we prioritize fair pay and good working conditions. Only adult, experienced artisans work in the partner workshops, and every production step is performed by hand, keeping greenhouse gas emissions low. We maintain these standards through regular on-site visits and continuous personal contact with our producers.
