Laundry Basket with Lid KAJA made from Banana Fibre

This roomy laundry basket keeps clothes, blankets, toys and other household items neatly out of sight while adding a warm, natural accent to any room. The basket combines durable banana fibre with a net-like pattern of cotton cords and a stable metal frame to retain its shape. The elegant funnel-shaped lid provides additional volume compared with flat lids.

Main material: Banana fibre. The baskets are woven from the fibres of the layered trunks of banana trees. Fibres acquire their intense brown tone after drying in the sun for about a week, then are rolled into characteristic strands approximately 6 mm thick. Only older, dying banana trees are used, giving these plants a second life as a robust, dimensionally stable raw material.

Other materials: Cotton cords, metal frame. The cotton cords form the net-shaped pattern that secures the banana-fibre weave, while the internal metal frame ensures the basket consistently holds its shape.

This basket is 100% handmade and produced under fair-trade conditions in Java, Indonesia. Only adult, experienced artisans are employed. No harmful chemicals are used in the manufacturing process. Because each step is done by hand, production generates minimal greenhouse gas emissions. We maintain fair pay and good working conditions through regular on-site visits and ongoing personal contact with our partner producers.

Each piece is an artisanal product and may vary slightly in size, color and shape due to handcrafting and the natural variation of materials. For longevity, keep the basket in a dry place and avoid prolonged exposure to moisture. Spot clean with a dry brush or a slightly damp cloth; do not submerge in water.
