Design & Aesthetic
The flower-shaped Melaya wall decoration is designed for simple elegance. Its single-material construction highlights the warm, natural brown of sun-dried banana fibre. Melaya creates subtle contrast when combined with our other wall decorations, especially pieces where white predominates, and suits bohemian, rustic, and natural interiors.

Our wall decors are made from plant fibres and retain a natural scent and texture. Banana fibres are extracted from the layered trunks of agricultural banana trees. The intense brown color develops naturally after drying in the sun for approximately one week. Individual strips are rolled into characteristic strands roughly 6 mm thick. Only older, dying banana trees are used, giving the plant material a second life as a dimensionally stable, robust base for handmade baskets and decor items by Soeji.

This wall decor is handmade in Java, Indonesia. When selecting local producers we prioritize fair pay and safe working conditions. Only adult, experienced artisans work in the production facilities we source from. No harmful chemicals are used during manufacturing. As all steps are done by hand, production generates minimal greenhouse gas emissions. We maintain these standards through regular on-site visits and continuous personal contact with our supplier partners.
