The PISANG basket is a versatile storage solution for any room. Handwoven from sustainable banana fibre, the rectangular form is enhanced with lovingly embroidered triangular appliqués made from white cotton cord. The natural fibres provide a warm, organic scent and tactile surface that brings a cozy, handcrafted character to your home.

Thanks to the robust banana fibre construction, the basket retains its shape and can handle heavier loads without collapsing. Use it as a floor basket for cushions and throws, as a shelf or wardrobe organizer for folded clothes and smaller items, or as a general-purpose container to keep your living spaces tidy. The three available sizes nest inside one another for space-efficient storage when not in use.

Materials

Main material: Banana fibre. Other materials: Cotton, nylon thread.

Banana fibre is sourced from the layered trunks of agricultural banana trees. The intense brown tone develops naturally when the fibres are sun-dried for about a week. Individual strips are then rolled into the characteristic strands of approximately 6 mm thickness. Only old or dying banana trees are used, giving these plants a second life as a dimensionally stable, robust raw material for handcrafted baskets.

Production & ethics

This basket is handmade in Java, Indonesia. We select local producers who provide fair pay and good working conditions. All artisans are adult and experienced; no harmful chemicals are used in production. Because each step is performed by hand, the manufacturing process produces minimal greenhouse gas.
