Construction and appearance

This small basket is made from rolled banana fibre strands combined with artistic cotton lacing in a macramé-inspired pattern. The natural brown tones of sun-dried banana fibre and the textured cotton details create an individual, rustic accent for any interior. The combination of banana fibre and seagrass gives the basket a tactile, natural scent and a durable structure suitable for both decorative and practical uses.

Materials explained

Seagrass (as commonly named by basket makers) refers here to a small, palm-like, beach plant widely cultivated in tropical Asia. Leaves are separated, cut into strips, dried, and hand-processed. Banana fibres come from the layered trunks of cultivated banana trees; fibres are sun-dried—developing an intense brown color—and rolled into approximately 6 mm strands. Only old or dying banana trees are used, providing a sustainable second life for this robust natural material. Nylon thread is used for specific construction details.

Handmade variations & care

Each basket is an individually handcrafted piece. Minor variations in size, color, and shape may occur due to hand production and the natural characteristics of the materials. Avoid prolonged exposure to direct moisture; for use with live plants, place a saucer or liner inside to protect the fibres. Clean by gently dusting or wiping with a dry or slightly damp cloth.
