Detailed description

Sayan is crafted as a tightly woven, filigree funnel that makes a striking decorative statement in any room. The light and open wicker pattern—reminiscent of traditional European wicker baskets—softens and diffuses illumination, producing cozy, ambient light ideal for living rooms, dining areas, bedrooms, or entryways. The neutral natural rattan color complements light, minimalist palettes and clean Scandinavian shapes.

The lampshade includes a metal ring for attaching a standard light bulb socket. It is sold without electrical accessories; suitable bulbs and cables are readily available at hardware stores. Because each lampshade is individually handmade, slight variations in size, color and weave are normal and lend character to every piece.

Main material: Rattan

Our lampshades are made from plant fibers and therefore carry a natural scent and texture. Rattan palms are often abundant in dense forests where they can grow invasively; regular harvesting of the stems helps restore balance. The stems regrow quickly without chemical additives and are dried before being used for furniture and woven goods. This fast renewal cycle makes rattan an exceptionally sustainable and readily available raw material.

Production & ethics

This lampshade is handmade in Bali, Indonesia. We select local producers who provide fair wages and good working conditions. All production steps are performed by adult, experienced artisans without the use of harmful chemicals. Because the weaving and finishing are done by hand, the manufacturing process generates minimal greenhouse gas emissions. We maintain these standards through regular on-site visits and ongoing personal contact with our partner workshops.
