Materials & Care

Main material: seagrass — a plant fibre traditionally prepared by separating leaves, cutting into strips, drying and hand-weaving. Although commonly called “seagrass” by basket makers, this material comes from a small, palm-like coastal plant cultivated in tropical Asian shores. The result is a natural scent and tactile, organic feel.

Other material: cotton lining. No harmful chemicals are used in production.

Craftsmanship & Origin

MENARA is 100% handmade and produced under fair trade principles in Java, Indonesia. Skilled adult artisans perform each production step by hand. The handcrafted process can cause slight variations in size, color and shape, making each bag a unique piece. We prioritize fair pay and safe working conditions, verified through regular on-site visits and continuous communication with our producers.
