Uses
Ideal as a plant basket for houseplants, a small paper or waste basket, or as an attractive container for pens, brushes, kitchen utensils, or other small items. Its sturdy construction makes it suitable for both decorative display and light everyday use.

Materials & craftsmanship
These baskets are crafted from natural plant fibres and retain the authentic scent and texture of their materials. What basket makers commonly call “seagrass” is not an underwater plant but a palm-like coastal species found on sandy beaches in tropical Asia. Leaves are harvested, cut into strips, sun-dried, and handwoven. Banana fibre is taken from the layered trunks of cultivated banana trees. When sun-dried for about a week the fibres develop their intense brown color naturally; the strips are then rolled into the characteristic ~6 mm strands. Only old, non-productive banana trees are used, giving the material a second life as a durable, dimensionally stable raw material for handcrafted goods.

Notes on variation
Each basket is an individual handmade item. Slight variations in size, color, and shape may occur due to manual production and the natural variability of the materials. These differences are part of the product’s unique character.

Ethics & production
This basket was handmade in Java, Indonesia. We select local producers who provide fair pay and safe working conditions; we work only with adult, experienced artisans. No harmful chemicals are used, and since all production steps are manual, the manufacturing process generates minimal greenhouse gas emissions. We verify these standards through regular on-site visits and ongoing personal contact with our partner workshops.
