The round PURA storage basket is entirely handmade from sturdy, sustainable banana fibre and features black cotton cords woven in the traditional "Kawung" pattern. About the material — Banana fibre

Our baskets are woven from plant fibres that retain a natural scent and texture. Banana fibre is taken from the layered trunks of cultivated banana trees. The intense brown tone is produced naturally by sun-drying the fibres for approximately one week. Strips are then rolled into the characteristic strands about 6 mm thick. Only old, dying banana trees are used, giving these plants a second life as dimensionally stable, robust raw material for our handcrafted baskets.

Production site & ethics

This basket is handmade in Java, Indonesia. We select local producers who provide fair pay and good working conditions. Only adult, experienced artisans are employed. No harmful chemicals are used during production, and because all steps are executed by hand, the manufacturing process generates minimal greenhouse gas emissions. We maintain these standards through regular on-site visits and continuous personal contact with our partners.
