The PURA basket is entirely handmade from sturdy, sustainable banana fibre and finished with white cotton cords woven in the traditional "Kawung" pattern. The woven cotton cord detail creates an elegant, tactile surface and a timeless aesthetic that pairs especially well with contrasting models (for example, a black-cord version such as our Praya). Integrated handles make the basket easy to move and highly space-efficient.
Functionality
Use PURA as a laundry basket, plant basket, or general storage container. Its stable construction and natural materials provide both durability and a decorative presence in living rooms, bedrooms, bathrooms or entryways. The basket is lightweight yet robust, and its shape holds garments, textiles, blankets, or potted plants securely.

Banana fibre is sourced from the layered trunks of banana plants. The fibres turn an intense brown when sun-dried for about a week, then the strips are rolled into characteristic strands approximately 6 mm thick. Only older, dying banana trees are used, giving these plants a second life as a resilient raw material for handcrafted baskets.
Production & ethical standards
This basket is handmade in Java, Indonesia. We select local producers who provide fair pay and good working conditions. Only experienced adult artisans are employed, and no harmful chemicals are used during production. Because all steps are done by hand, the manufacturing process generates minimal greenhouse gas emissions. We maintain these standards through regular on-site visits and ongoing personal contact with our partners.
