The Utara round wall basket combines functional storage with decorative wall design. Its roomy, shallow profile makes it perfect for organizing smaller items while keeping them visible and accessible. The basket is crafted using a needle-knotting technique by experienced artisans, producing a refined and durable finish. Attach it to a wall hook or nail to create an attractive, space-saving storage solution in the bathroom, nursery, hallway, or living area.

Material

Material: Raffia (Corypha utan). The baskets are woven from plant fibers that retain a natural scent and a soft yet robust texture. Raffia is harvested from leaf material of the raffia palm in Southeast Asia. Leaves are renewed approximately every two years; harvested leaves are sun-dried and processed into fibers, with varying degrees of browning achieved through controlled drying. The material’s relative rarity and labor-intensive processing contribute to its higher cost compared to other plant fibers. While less common in Europe, raffia is widely used across Southeast Asia for everyday objects because of its pleasant feel and durability.

Production & Ethics

This basket was handmade in Java, Indonesia. We work with local producers who ensure fair pay and good working conditions. Only adult, experienced artisans are employed, and no harmful chemicals are used during manufacturing. Because all steps are performed by hand, the production process generates minimal greenhouse gas emissions. We maintain these standards through regular on-site visits and continuous personal contact with our partner companies.
