Care & characteristics: Each RAGA bowl is an individual piece of artisanal work. Slight variations in size, color and shape may occur due to the handmade production process and natural differences in the material. The baskets retain the natural scent and texture of plant fibers. No harmful chemicals are used during production.
About the material: Raffia grows naturally in the steppes and forested areas of Southeast Asia. Leaves are renewed approximately every two years; the older leaves are collected, sun-dried for several days to weeks and then processed into wickerwork according to the desired degree of browning. Raffiaβs relative rarity and the higher effort required to process it make it more valuable than many other plant fibers. Although less familiar in Europe, raffia is widely used across Southeast Asia for everyday objects due to its pleasant softness and durability.
Production site: Handmade in Java, Indonesia. We maintain regular on-site visits and ongoing personal contact with our producers to ensure fair wages, good working conditions and responsible production practices. Because all steps are done by hand, the manufacturing process produces minimal greenhouse gas emissions.
Notes: Please allow for minor variations between individual baskets. If you have questions about size, shipping, or wholesale orders, contact our customer support or Orderchamp shop for details.
