The fibres develop an intense brown tone naturally after about a week of sun-drying. Strips of fibre are then rolled into the characteristic strands of approximately 6 mm thickness and handwoven into durable baskets. Only old, dying banana trees are used, giving the plant a second life as a stable, robust raw material. Cotton and nylon thread are used for the decorative applications and reinforcement.Because each basket is handmade, items may vary slightly in size, color and shape due to natural material variations and artisanal production. The finished baskets retain a natural aroma and tactile qualities typical of plant fibres.Ethics and origin:Production site: Handmade in Java, Indonesia.When selecting local producers we prioritise fair pay and safe working conditions. We work exclusively with adult and experienced artisans. No harmful chemicals are used during production, and because all steps are executed by hand, the manufacturing process produces minimal greenhouse gas emissions.
