Materials

Main material: Raffia (Corypha utan). Raffia grows in the steppe and forest regions of Southeast Asia. Leaves are harvested every two years, sun-dried for days to weeks to reach the desired degree of browning, and then processed into woven products. The harvesting and manual processing contribute to the material’s higher cost compared to other plant fibers, but also to its soft yet robust character. While raffia is less common in Europe, it is widely used across Southeast Asia for everyday objects.

Filling: Cotton & Coconut fiber. Our plant-fiber filling offers a natural smell and feel that complements the raffia casing.

Production

This pillow is handmade in Java, Indonesia. We select local producers who provide fair pay and safe working conditions. All artisans are adults with experience in their craft. No harmful chemicals are used in the manufacturing process. Because every step is executed by hand, the production generates minimal greenhouse gas emissions.
