DITU combines traditional weaving techniques with a contemporary leaf silhouette. The metal frame gives stability and ensures the placemat retains its shape while the natural water hyacinth provides a warm, tactile surface. Materials and origin
Main material: water hyacinth. Water hyacinth is a fast-growing tropical aquatic plant. For processing, leaves are removed and the thick stems are sun-dried for three to seven days, producing a durable, sustainable fiber ideal for wickerwork. Other materials: metal frame.
Handmade quality and variation
Each placemat is handcrafted in Java, Indonesia, by experienced adult artisans working under fair conditions. Because every piece is made by hand from natural fibers, slight variations in size, color and shape may occurβthese differences are part of the product's organic charm.
Ethics and sustainability
We prioritize fair pay and safe working conditions in our supply chain. No harmful chemicals are used in production. The handcrafting process minimizes greenhouse gas emissions compared with industrial manufacturing. Packaging is plastic-free to reduce environmental impact.
