Production and material details:

Fine raffia fibers are knotted into a square net, which gives the bag its characteristic flexibility and low weight. Raffia (Corypha utan) grows in steppe and forest regions of Southeast Asia. Leaves are renewed roughly every two years; the discarded leaves are collected, sun-dried and processed into wickerwork. Natural variations in color, tone and texture are expected and part of the product’s handmade character, making each bag unique. Because of the material’s relative rarity and the careful manual processing involved, raffia products are more exclusive than many other plant-fiber items.

Ethical production:

This bag was handmade in Java, Indonesia. We work only with adult, experienced artisans and prioritize fair pay and good working conditions. No harmful chemicals are used in the manufacturing process. Since every step is performed by hand, the production generates minimal greenhouse gas emissions. We maintain regular on-site visits and ongoing personal contact with our production partners to ensure these standards.

Care and use:

Lightweight and flexible, the bag folds flat for easy storage. The material is forgiving in wet conditions and can be used in light rain; allow to air dry if it becomes wet. As a natural-fiber product, avoid prolonged exposure to heavy moisture and extreme conditions to preserve shape and color.
