The bag is braided from raffia leaves, producing a pleasantly soft yet robust texture. Raffia (Corypha utan) grows naturally in steppe and forest regions of Southeast Asia; leaves renew roughly every two years. Harvested leaves are sun-dried for days to weeks and processed by hand into wickerwork. The relative rarity and intensive hand processing make raffia more valuable than many other plant fibres. While raffia is less familiar in Europe, it is widely used across Southeast Asia for everyday items due to its resilience and natural feel.
