Sustainability and material notes

Rattan palms often grow densely in forested areas and can behave invasively by outcompeting other plants. Regular harvesting of rattan stems is necessary and these stems regrow quickly without chemical treatment. After drying, the stems are suitable for crafting furniture and woven goods. Rattan’s rapid regrowth and minimal processing make it a highly sustainable and abundant material choice.

Production and ethics

This lampshade is handmade in Bali, Indonesia by a small family business specializing in rattan. We select local producers who provide fair wages and safe working conditions. All artisans are adults with experience, and no harmful chemicals are used in the production process. Because the manufacturing is predominantly manual, the production generates minimal greenhouse gas emissions. We maintain these standards through regular on-site visits and continuous personal contact with our suppliers.

Delivery details

The LIKU lampshade is supplied without cable and without a lightbulb so you can install it with your preferred suspension length, cable color, and bulb specification. Cables and bulbs can be purchased at most hardware stores or lighting specialists.
