Our MUARA tables are made in small family-run workshops (usually 20–30 employees) where experienced craftsmen of legal working age produce each item by hand. The collaboration prioritizes fair pay, safe working environments and reasonable hours. Many older artisans, who can no longer work in agriculture, earn a meaningful income and pass traditional skills to younger generations. Regular on-site visits and continuous personal contact ensure compliance with our fair trade criteria.

About rattan

Rattan grows as a climbing palm in the tropical forests of Indonesia. Branches and trunks are harvested manually and dried; different parts are used for furniture and fine wickerwork. Because rattan palms require intact ecosystems, the sustainable processing of rattan encourages the preservation of healthy forests and provides livelihoods for local communities.
