Production and sustainability: The water hyacinth used for SAWAH grows abundantly on lakes and rivers. In many regions it is removed to protect waterways; repurposing this plant for durable home goods turns an environmental challenge into a sustainable resource. After harvesting, stalks are trimmed and sun-dried for three to seven days before being woven. The entire process produces minimal greenhouse gas emissions and results in a fully natural, biodegradable product.

Artisan story and fair production: SAWAH rugs are crafted by small family businesses on the Indonesian island of Java. We work directly with these artisan partners, prioritising fair wages, safe working conditions and reasonable hours. Many older artisans who can no longer farm benefit from handicraft work, allowing them to earn a living while passing traditional skills to younger generations. Regular on-site visits and ongoing personal contact ensure ethical production standards are upheld.
