Details
Kirana – your new seagrass wall mirror – brings warmth, natural charm and effortless style into your home, transforming empty walls into true eye-catchers. Handwoven from seagrass and cotton fibres, its soft, earthy tones create a relaxed, tropical atmosphere. And of course, a wall mirror is as practical as it is decorative – the perfect spot for a quick check of your outfit or make-up before heading out. Whether in the living room, bedroom or hallway, its clean rectangular shape instantly makes any space feel more inviting and personal.

Kirana stands out for its carefully chosen materials. The seagrass and cotton are sourced from environmentally responsible, local production, while the thick, premium glass offers a crystal-clear reflection and extra durability. Two sturdy loops on the back allow for quick, effortless mounting in either portrait or landscape orientation – all it takes is a single hook or nail.

Each mirror is handcrafted in small Indonesian workshops under conditions we personally inspect on a regular basis. This means not only fair pay, giving artisans the chance to support their families, but also a safe and respectful working environment. At the same time, the production helps preserve traditional craft techniques that have been passed down through generations for centuries. With every handmade piece, you are helping to safeguard this rich cultural heritage.

Also note our other listings – in our shop you will find many different baskets, home accessories and bags made from sustainable materials under fair production conditions.

➤ The sustainable main material: Seagrass

The seagrass used by our production partners grows in dense meadows on the seabed in coastal areas of the Indian Ocean. The long, flexible leaves are carefully harvested by hand, cut into narrow strips, and then gently dried. This natural process gives the material its characteristic strength and durable structure, making it ideal for crafting high-quality handmade products. Thanks to its natural beauty and eco-friendliness, seagrass is the perfect choice for stylish, sustainable accessories that blend aesthetics with environmental responsibility.

Other material: cotton, wood, glass

➤ The production process: from raw material to finished mirror

Our Kirana wall mirrors are handcrafted by skilled artisans on the Indonesian island of Java. To begin, they cut seagrass fibres into fine strips and weave them into the square wooden frame, which also holds the mirror glass. They then add the decorative, traditional pattern made from white cotton cords. Finally, the seagrass edges are carefully trimmed by hand to create perfectly straight lines. In total, each mirror takes around two hours to make.

➤ Our production partners: Selected according to fair trade criteria

When selecting our local production partners in Indonesia, we emphasise fair payment, safe working conditions and reasonable working hours. We work exclusively with small family businesses that have a maximum of 20 to 30 employees. They are all experienced craftspeople of legal age. Older people in particular, who can no longer work in agriculture, benefit from jobs in handicrafts, allowing them to use the skills they have learnt from an early age to earn money and pass on traditional production methods to the younger generation. They have often told us how happy they are to be able to create something meaningful with this work and earn a good living. As all work steps are carried out by hand, the production process generates hardly any greenhouse gas emissions. We ensure all of this through regular on-site visits and ongoing personal contact with the companies.
