Materials and craftsmanship:
The main material is banana fibre, valued for its durability and beautiful reddish-brown color. Banana fibres are extracted from the layered trunks of agricultural banana trees. After harvesting, the fibres are sun-dried for about a week, during which the deep brown tone develops naturally. Individual strips are then rolled into characteristic strands approximately 6 mm thick. Only old, dying banana trees are used, giving the trees a second life as a dimensionally stable, robust raw material for handcrafted baskets by Soeji.
The decorative zigzag macrame motif is hand-stitched in cotton cords and accented with nylon thread where needed for reinforcement. The combination of banana fibre and cotton cord creates a tactile, natural look that retains shape while adding a warm, artisanal touch to interior styling.
Design pairing:
The SADARA design corresponds to our larger basket Dalu; together they form a harmonious pair of decorative accessories for coordinated home styling.
Measurements & weight (Height without handles × diameter):
S: 14 × 15 cm; 0.17 kg
M: 17 × 17 cm; 0.25 kg
L: 18 × 20 cm; 0.32 kg
Notes on variations:
Each basket is an artfully crafted individual piece. Slight variations in size, color and shape may occur due to hand production and the natural character of the materials. These variations reflect the handmade nature and add to the uniqueness of every piece.
Care and use recommendations:
- For use as a planter: place a waterproof liner or saucer inside to protect the basket from direct moisture. Avoid prolonged water exposure.
- Clean gently with a dry or slightly damp cloth; avoid harsh chemicals and machine washing.
- Keep out of prolonged direct sunlight if you wish to preserve the natural color longer; occasional exposure will not harm the material.
Production and ethics:
This basket is handmade in Java, Indonesia. In selecting local producers we prioritize fair pay and safe working conditions. Only experienced adult artisans
