Materials & craftsmanship
The main material is seagrass, a plant fiber commonly referred to as “seagrass” by basket makers. It is a palm-like coastal plant found on sandy tropical beaches in Asia. Leaves are harvested, separated, cut into strips, dried, and handwoven into durable baskets. Nylon thread is used for secure stitching where needed. These plant fibers retain a natural aroma and tactile feel, emphasizing the product’s organic character.
Each basket is an individual, artisanal piece. Slight variations in size, color and shape are a natural result of handcrafting and the inherent variability of natural materials.
Use & care
- Use as an indoor plant cover: place a potted plant inside; for direct contact with soil or water, use a saucer or a protective liner to prevent moisture damage.
- Use as a small storage basket for stationery, cosmetics, kitchen utensils, or as a decorative flower holder.
- Clean with a dry or slightly damp cloth; avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight or heavy moisture to preserve color and shape.
Production & ethics
This basket is handmade in Java, Indonesia. We carefully select local producers who provide fair pay and good working conditions; only adult, experienced artisans work in the partner workshops. No harmful chemicals are used in production, and the hand-crafted process minimizes greenhouse gas emissions. We verify these standards through regular site visits and ongoing personal contact with our suppliers.
